We have around 24,000 students per year and about 120 teachers. We are a seven-day-a-week operation with Saturday and Sunday being our busiest days. Around 65% of our students are kindergarten, primary and secondary YLs and we have recently launched Primary Plus, the new regional primary product which is currently in an exciting period of growth. For Adults, we teach a wide range of general English, exam preparation and business courses, with the British Council global product myClass being the largest area.

Role overview

As a member of our Teaching Team your role will be:

  • to plan and deliver up to 21 contact hours of lessons to kindergarten students, young learners and / or adults, both on-site and off-site as required
  • to prepare and use materials effectively, taking into account individual learning styles, and to provide an environment conducive to learning
  • to maintain registers, records of work, student reports and other administrative documents to the quality, and within the timelines, required
  • to manage relationships with students, providing regular feedback and counselling on progress
  • to set, correct, and provide feedback on homework
  • to assist with the development of courses, resources, teaching materials, and professional development in the centre
  • to actively participate in professional development  
  • to remain up-to-date with pedagogic developments in EFL to ensure that high standards of teaching are maintained and that the British Council remains at the forefront of best ELT practice.

In our teaching centre we aim to provide the best English language teaching available. For this reason we also require: 

  • education to degree level or equivalent qualification
  • a certificate level TEFL qualification (Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL)
  • a minimum of two years teaching experience post-TEFL qualification or a PGCE with QTS status
  • high proficiency in the use of the English language equivalent to IELTS band 9
  • evidence of specific behavioural competencies
