The Folio Society - a UK publisher best known for publishing books with exceptional typography, illustrations, paper and bindings, is a half publisher half book club operation in the UK with members across the world. Founded in London in 1947 on the principle that books should be beautiful to the eye as well as captivating to the mind, they have published an astonishing range of works from Moby-Dick to Pather Panchali, and from the Qur’ân to Kerouac’s On The Road.

Peter Suart has illustrated many books for the Folio Society, including Robertson Davies’ The Deptford Trilogy, Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita, Nikolia Gogol’s Collected Tales, Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels (limited edition), and Friedrich Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

Other than revealing the workings of this unique organisation in this sharing session, Suart will show slides of his work, discuss the process of illustrating a book and his insights on nurturing creativity, and will look at some of the ideas in these famous books.
