How to register for our courses

1. English Entry Test

**To support efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, you/your child can now choose to take our English level test at home or at our English Language Centre. When making your online booking, you are still required to pick a centre for the test. After completing the booking, we will contact you to confirm where you would like to take the test.** 

English entry test is required for the following courses:

  • Primary 1 to Secondary 6 courses
  • IELTS Courses
  • Cambridge exam preparation courses (For exemptions, please call us for more details.)
  • Adult Courses
  • Assessment for Young Learner Phonics courses

English entry tests are held at our Customer Services Centres in Admiralty or Tsim Sha Tsui. You can book the test online, by phone on 2632 9800 or in person at our Customer Services Centres up to 14 days before your preferred test day. English entry tests and Phonics Assessment results are valid for six months. Register now

Our English entry tests thoroughly assesses your language knowledge and your ability in English. You can take the test at Admiralty centre or Tsim Sha Tsui centre. Book an English entry test today! 

No English entry test is required for the following courses:

  • Courses for Kindergarten or below
  • IELTS Mock 1-to-1

2. Choose the right course

After the English entry test, our English Services Consultants will help you select the most suitable course for your needs and English level. 

For courses that do not require an English entry test enrolment, please register in person at our Customer Services Centres in Admiralty or Tsim Sha Tsui.

3. Make a payment

Payment for courses can be made by VISA, MasterCard or EPS. Credit card instalments (if applicable) and EPS must be done in person. Please note that we do not accept cash or cheques.

A parent's or guardian's signature is required for all new young learner (under 18) registrations (Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary courses) to acknowledge the acceptance of our terms and conditions. 

Please come to the Customer Services Centres in Admiralty or Tsim Sha Tsui in person for course registration. Should you not be able to come in person, please download and sign the registration forms below.

Places for the February Semester (Young Learner Courses)

Places are NOT automatically reserved for the February Semester.  Students may enrol for the February Semester at the time they enrol for the September Semester or as soon as you are sure of your child’s availability to ensure a place for your preferred class and time.  Places are booked on a first-come-first-served basis and are not guaranteed without registration.

Payment

You can pay by VISA, MasterCard, EPS or by cheque made payable to 'The British Council'. Credit card instalments (if applicable) and EPS must be done in person. Please note that we do not accept cash or post-dated cheques. 

The British Council cannot accept payments made from banks (or other financial institutions) sanctioned by the UK or any other relevant jurisdiction. Where the British Council discovers evidence of payment from a sanctioned bank and/or sanctioned financial institution we will freeze all funds related to that payment and will be unable to deliver the service for which the payment was intended. Please therefore ensure that you do not make payments from an account in a sanctioned bank and/or sanctioned financial institution.

Eligibility to Study in Hong Kong

You must present your HKID card or other valid documentation showing your eligibility to study in Hong Kong upon registration. 

Liability

The British Council shall not be liable to any party in respect of the following:

  1. for any loss or damage to your property or any property in your possession in the course of engaging with the British Council or participating in courses as arranged by the British Council.
  2. for death, or any injury or incapacity (except as may be required by law).

Important Notes (Young Learner Courses)

  • The British Council reserves the right to assign any teacher, and arrange or change the venue, date and time of any scheduled or make-up class.
  • We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment in which children are supported to achieve their potential in a spirit of inclusion and acceptance. We value the abilities and achievements of all our students and recognise that parents hold key information and knowledge of their child which support these. If your child needs any additional support in class, please notify us by filling in the form available at our Customer Services Centre at the time of registration. Having this information enables us to help your child more effectively. Your information is held in the strictest confidence.
  • Should any special educational need be identified in your child at any point during their studies with us please ask our customer service staff for more information about how we can support your child and complete the necessary Special Education Needs form.
  • If a previously identified special educational need is found to have been withheld British Council reserves the right to reassess the suitability of the learning environment provided and, in some cases, this may also result in the withdrawal of admission of the student from class.
  • In order to ensure a secure and happy environment that is conducive to learning for all students, we expect all our students to behave appropriately. Behaviour that causes harassment, alarm or distress to others is contrary to British Council values and any inappropriate behaviour may result in exclusion. In extreme cases, a student may be immediately and permanently excluded.
  • Should any student cause class disruptions and prevent lessons proceeding as normal, students aged 9 years old and over will be placed on a behavioural contract. Should the student fail to adhere to the guidelines set out in the contract they may be excluded. In cases of exclusion, unconsumed fees will not be refunded and alternative compensation will not be offered.

Important Notes (Adult Courses)

  • The British Council reserves the right to assign any teacher, and arrange or change the venue, date and time of any scheduled or make-up class.

myClass Time Extension and Re-registration

  • All myClass students may apply for a one-time extension if they are unable to finish their package before the package expiry date.  They must apply for this extension 2 months before, or on, the date of the package expiry.  The study period will be extended from the original date of expiry.  The maximum study period for any package, including the extension, is 18 months.  The current fee for a 3-month extension is HK$2,200; a 6-month extension is HK$4,400. 
  • Alternatively, students may re-register for a new package.  Any remaining credits from the existing package will be carried over and valid until the new package expires if re-registration is completed within the calendar month of the package expiry. For example, if the package expiry date is 3 Dec 2017, the deadline to enjoy the carry-over offer is 31 Dec 2017.
  • The British Council reserves the right to change the fees, offers and terms and conditions at any time.

Refund Policy

  • Registered courses are neither transferable nor refundable except when a course is cancelled.
  • No refund, make-up class or alternative compensation will be given under any circumstances for absences from the class by the student. This includes but not limited to illness or other personal / school / work commitments.
  • Class cancellations due to bad weather will be made up either in-centre or online. If the student is unable to attend the make-up class, no refund or alternative compensation will be offered. If make-up classes cannot be arranged, no refund will be offered. Course credits (valid for 1 year) on a pro-rata basis will be issued. There will be no refund for unconsumed credits under any circumstances.
  • Class cancellations due to teacher sickness or circumstances within the control of the British Council will be made up either in-centre or online. If the student is unable to attend the make-up class, no refund will be offered. Course credits (valid for 1 year) will be offered on a pro-rata basis with valid documentation. No refund will be offered for unconsumed credits under any circumstances. If make-up classes cannot be arranged, a refund on a pro-rata basis will be offered.
  • The venue and/or time of class may change due to circumstances beyond the control of the British Council. Notification will be sent in advance. If the student is unable to attend the class, no refund will be offered. Course credits (valid for 1 year) will be offered on a pro-rata basis with valid documentation. No refund will be offered for unconsumed credits under any circumstances.
  • No refund, make-up class or alternative compensation will be given for class cancelations or changing from in-centre to online lessons due to circumstances beyond the control of the British Council. This includes but is not limited to outbreak of riot, civil commotion, epidemic, natural disaster, new government regulations or unanticipated class disruption such as necessary building evacuation due to fire.
  • Any request for withdrawal due to serious medical conditions must be submitted in writing, together with valid documentation. If request is approved, a credit note (valid for 1 year) for the course fee will be issued. Ten per cent of the course fee will be charged as an administration fee. No refund will be offered for unconsumed credits under any circumstances.
  • The British Council cannot make payments to banks (or other financial institutions) sanctioned by the UK or any other relevant jurisdiction. If you request a refund to be sent to an account at a sanctioned bank and/or sanctioned financial institution, you will be asked to nominate an alternative method of payment that does not breach sanctions. Failure to provide an alternative method of payment will result in non-payment of the relevant funds.
