The Elephant House is sometimes called the birthplace of Harry Potter, as J.K. Rowling wrote her earlier novels here. I also enjoy sitting in coffee houses when writing my essays, the comfortable atmosphere somehow make the writing less of a chore. But currently, I come to this street mostly for Patisserie Valerie, to give myself occasional treats in the form of beautiful and delicious desserts. The National Library of Scotland and the National Museum is also nearby, and an afternoon spent here always gets me charged up for the days ahead.
