Attended: Delia School of Canada, Hong Kong

Why did you choose the University of Leeds?

I chose the University of Leeds as it is one of the best universities in the UK. Another reason was that the staff were very helpful unlike the other universities I had applied to.

Why did you choose to come to Leeds University to study Sport and Exercise Sciences?

University of Leeds’ BSc Sports and Exercise Sciences was ranked highly compared to other university so therefore I chose it. Another reason was that the course structure was appealing to me, it allowed me to specialise in my favourite field.

What do you enjoy about your course?

I enjoyed the laboratory sessions the most. The lab sessions were challenging and really get you thinking. You use high quality equipment to capture different types of data. In the biomechanics lab, we had access to thousands of pounds worth of equipment ranging from high motion 3D cameras to force platforms.

What has been the best aspect of studying at the University of Leeds and why?

The best aspect of studying at the University of Leeds for me has been the atmosphere of the university. The people are very helpful and kind.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed so far?

I really enjoyed my final research project. I loved the freedom I had to research a topic of my choice. Being a keen powerlifter, I explored the relationship between the ankle range of motion and knee motion during squats.

As an international student tell us about how staff support has helped you throughout your time at university?

Prior to applying to University of Leeds, I was already studying a BSc at another university. And as an international student there are visa restrictions to transferring universities. The members from the University of Leeds helped me through all the procedures with getting into the course whilst all other universities refused to even consider me due to me being an international student.

What are your ambitions for the future? Do you have specific career plans?

I would love to work as a physiotherapist. My plan is to gain some real life experience and apply for a master in physiotherapy.

What key aspects of your experience of Leeds would you highlight to students thinking about coming do the same course?

Amazing city, top university and the course has been very enjoyable. The course was challenging and you learn many aspects of how athletes are trained to be highly competitive in global events. This also allowed me to improve my personal powerlifting performances as I gained knowledge in proper technique. It is a course that teaches you a wide range of important skills such as analytical and critical thinking skills. These skills can be used in almost every field of work which makes the degree very flexible when looking for a job.
