For its first digital residency, Videotage recreated the virtual site of Cattle Depot, a Hong Kong artists’ village, in Minecraft. Following its success, in this London-Hong Kong edition, UK artist Gary Woodley was invited to explore with Videotage curator Kyle Chung the contrasting approaches to urban development of two low-income neighbourhoods: Alexandra Road Estate (London) and To Kwa Wan (Hong Kong).

Reconstructed in one-to-one scale, the architecture and societal conditions of the two areas are reflected and interconnected through Woodley's signature site-specific installation art, named 'Double Hilbert Meander'.

First launched in October 2021 for the SPARK festival, the realm remains accessible on the Videotage Minecraft platform, available to Switch, Xbox, mobile app, and Windows 10 users.

You can also view a full-length artist sharing session with Gary Woodley and Videotage curator Kyle Chung, recorded during SPARK 2021.
