Why did you choose Leeds College of Art?
Because it encourages creativity among students and there are amazing facilities and professional lecturers.
What are the advantages of studying at a specialist arts institution?
You can focus on a specific subject and develop professional skills and techniques that school cannot provide. Students are prepared for their careers while studying and have opportunities to explore the industry further. Most importantly, you have your own studio space to work in!
What do you think of the learning experience at Leeds College of Art?
It has been great so far. In Hong Kong, art is not a mainstream subject so we didn’t have much encouragement to experience art at school. Here there is a positive atmosphere of learning and being creative. The tutors are very helpful and always give constructive feedback while peer groups allow a lot of interaction between course mates.
What are the studios and facilities?
Leeds College of Art won the WhatUni award for facilities so they are pretty great! There are Macs and PCs in every studio. The ceramics area, print room and photography studio are very popular, they have everything you want.
Do you feel that studying in the UK is preparing you well for life after graduation?
I have been gaining important experiences, learning different computer programmes and drawing techniques that enhance practical skills and build up my CV. I feel well equipped for job hunting.
What is Leeds like?
It’s a fascinating city, modern and stylish. There are some big shopping malls in town and nice cafes to chill at. You can always find inspiration at Leeds Art Gallery. Leeds is safe and cosy and a good place to meet people from all over the world!
