Purcell, the heritage architects behind the revitalised Former Central Police Station Compound, will take participants on walking tours of Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts.
In a joint venture between the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Government of the HKSAR, UK architecture firm Purcell worked in collaboration with Herzog & de Meuron and Rocco Design Architects to deliver the single largest heritage project of its type that Hong Kong will perhaps ever undertake. This team has revitalised a six-acre site, restored 16 heritage buildings, and added two new contemporary buildings.
The tour will offer insights behind the process, explaining how the three architects collaborated to achieve this success. Key challenges and how they were overcome will be highlighted, together with showcasing how the project reinvigorated craft skills, how it altered historic buildings to meet modern standards and how it integrated new design elements with old. The tour promises to be an immersive experience and a celebration of this iconic project.
